A fuller description of the Park and its wildlife is available on the Wanstead Wildlife website. A map of the Park is provided here Wanstead Park is the heart of the Wren Group's study area and most of our practical work currently takes place here or in adjacent areas. The City of London Corporation manages the Park as a part of Epping Forest under the terms of the Epping Forest Act of 1878, although for historical reasons the style of management differs from that of the rest of the Forest. The complicated and interesting history of the Park is reviewed in the publication Wanstead Park - A Chronicle by Alan Cornish, M.Sc. and republished by the Wanstead Parklands Community Project in 2006. It is available from some local libraries. The history and character of the Park and its parklands, as well as neighbouring areas within the Group's remit, are also looked at in the Wanstead Wildlife website: www.wansteadwildlife.org.uk That website also has many photographs of the area, as well as photographs and records of the wildlife that may be found here. |
